Wayside Train Signaling

We have extensive knowledge in planning, design, material procurement, utility coordination, and project management of wayside train signaling projects. In the past 10 years we’ve averaged 5 to 15 of these types of projects per year.

For one of our clients, we completed 95% of their PTC signal design & engineering. Our PTC design work began in 2010 and continued through the end of 2018. This project included major revisions for 17 subdivisions (895 locations). For this massive project, we completed all steps from preliminary design through preparing final as built plans. We also managed all other third party engineering groups that designed the remaining 5% of the work. We also completed the majority of the design work, research, and communications with other railroads for the 28 Interlockers requiring PTC upgrades.

We have also designed many other wayside projects in the past 15 years including:

    • Designed over 325 miles of CTC territory
    • Designed over 350 miles of BRD territory
    • Designed over 1,500 miles of Tons Per Operative Break Signal System changes
    • Numerous capacity improvement projects including new sidings, siding extensions, and new industry connections (averaging 4-6 per year)
    • KCSR Willows Tower Modernization Project – created design plans, code & aspect charts, and material lists to replace all signaling equipment for tower/interlocker plant involving 4 railroads .
